Appleby horse fare

A toddler rides a dapple grey cob through the river on a hot afternoon. I took this yesterday in at the annual horse fare in Appleby-in-Westmorland. Hundreds of travellers from the North East and further afield descend for four days on the tiny village. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay longer and I only had a pocket camera that ran out of battery after a few shots. But I like this picture. The girl started crying when the horse went into the deep water and she had to be lifted off.
